Presenting at the conference is an excellent way to share your knowledge, skills, and expertise, and contribute to learning exchange and adoption of best practices in Minnesota. The theme of this year's confernce is "Forward Together: Building Resilience, Collaboration and Community”. Our resilience going forward will lie in the strength of our collaboration and the interconnectedness of our communities. This year’s conference theme was chosen to highlight strategies that can build resilience and enhance collaboration in prevention. We are seeking breakout sessions that highlight work across sectors and emphasize interconnectedness in primary prevention.
We are seeking sessions that cover:
-
Primary prevention strategies
-
Risk & protective factors of substance use including mental health, ACE’s, PCE’s
-
Substance use research & data
-
Coalition building and leadership development
-
Culturally specific and responsive practices
-
Needs assessment and evaluation
-
Youth & school engagement
-
Interpersonal & mass communication
-
And more!
Youth Track Breakout Session Proposals
This year we will have a designated Youth Track on Day One of the conference (October 13th). The breakout sessions scheduled in this track are intended to specifically serve a high-school-aged audience. Applications to present in the Youth Track will be considered separately from other breakout sessions this year. Please review the intended audience for each track and decide which is the right fit for your proposed session:
Standard breakout session audience: Prevention professional with 0-6+ years in the field. Including, but not limited to, coalition leaders and members, prevention specialists, substance use and mental health professionals, college-students, educators, public health professionals, law enforcement, and faith leaders.
Youth track audience: High-school-aged members and leaders of community and school coalitions. Often student conference attendees will present their coalition work in breakout sessions or at exhibit booths at the conference. Students conference attendees look for a high level of engagement in sessions they attend: they are very interested in connecting with and learning from others doing similar work.
Proposals due by May 29, 11:59 pm CST
Our work is focused on the primary prevention of substance misuse:
Primary prevention means preventing substance misuse before it starts. Prevention initiatives seek to create environments which support healthy behaviors and build healthy community norms by using evidence-based, comprehensive strategies. Proposals submitted to this year's conference should also be tied to primary prevention.
